Type "SL" connecting pins are a Bell System design and feature a swivel lock which is held in place by a spring loaded detent ball. They are advantageous over using a pin and separate clip or hair pin arrangement for locking. Actual dimension (working length) of the distance from under the head to the swivel lock is 1/8" longer than nominal dimension. The pin bodies and components are zinc plated per ASTM B633 to protect them from rust and corrosion.
